'Art within the art of medicine; exploring the use and impact of health practitioners' drawings in a consultation'.
The ten to fifteen-minute discussion between a patient and their health practitioner is time pressured and therefore effective communication in this limited time is essential. Many health practitioners use drawing during a patient consultation. This research will determine the impact of communication through drawings created by doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, dentists, midwives, psychologists and other health practitioners during a consultation. It will lead to an understanding of the individual characteristics of those health practitioners who engage in drawing, what are they drawing and what effect this has on the consultation. Importantly, it will reveal what the patients experience when they have a drawing created for them and what impact this has on their health outcome.
